Winemaking

Our Philosophy

The ‘threads’ of the winemaking philosophy at Neqtar Australia are pretty clear to see;

Only great fruit can possibly make great wine:

No amount of trickery can force ordinary or poor grapes to perform above themselves. A grower with commitment is as vital as a winemaker with all the repertoire of tricks.

A good winery and winemaking crew are judged, not so much by their fanciest and most expensive wine, but by their humblest:

This is the wine that has to impress; for it’s character, generosity and authenticity. It’s
these qualities that then translate to value – and that’s ultimately your judgement anyway?

Even within the Murray-Darling, ‘powerhouse’ of the Australian wine industry, and known for its quality and value, all vines and wines need not be the same:

Those, like the growers and winemakers of Neqtar Australia, who know the individual qualities of different vineyard sites, their topography, soil compositions and vine qualities of yield and age; these people can nurture characters of great distinction and produce wines which in partnership can add depth or which should be kept aside to show their individual brilliance. Who says it all has to taste the same?

The only other fundamental here at Neqtar Australia is to make sure that every wine is carefully made:

Using the precision of measurement and the protection of good equipment are the ways to retain existing aromas, flavour, freshness and life.

The only catch is that these are hardly the rules for a standard code or a manual. They’re values and instincts to be learned and developed and they’re only treasured by certain people…
